This week's article is Rethinking how we teach pronunciation by Jennifer Hutchison, published by TESL Ontario on 29 July 2019.
What caught my attention in this article? First, the change in the writer's attitude from the end of paragraph three down to the two last sentences of the article. Do read it to find out. That’s what reading about different perspectives on pronunciation can bring about.
Then I like the idea of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and that non-native students (NNS) can keep their accents, shouldn't be ashamed of them.
Finally, I like the idea that “we owe it to our students to prepare them for the strong likelihood that they will need to communicate intelligibly with other NNS in international settings”.
Enjoy the article! And enjoy pronunciation!
